The 200 MW strategic partnership between Chinese solar technology provider Arctech and Argentina’s Tonka Solar marks a significant boost to Argentina’s expanding photovoltaic market. This collaboration enhances the integration of advanced solar tracking systems into large-scale projects, reinforcing Argentina’s broader renewable energy transition and deepening Chinese technological influence in the local sector.
Chinese firm Arctech signed a 200 MW supply and services agreement with Argentine company Tonka Solar to provide next-generation solar trackers, mounting structures, engineering, design, and technical support for utility-scale solar projects. This deal aligns with Argentina’s increasing emphasis on renewable sources and reflects confidence in the country’s favorable natural and technical conditions for photovoltaic deployment. Arctech brings extensive global experience, having supplied over 91 GW of solar solutions across 40 countries, and was ranked by Wood Mackenzie in 2024 as the world’s second-largest tracker provider. Their technology portfolio includes more than 670 registered patents, emphasizing innovation and adaptability to challenging environments, such as those prevailing in large parts of Argentina. Tonka Solar, with a strong national industrial footprint and distribution network, benefits by augmenting its project pipeline and positioning itself competitively by integrating Arctech’s advanced technology. The collaboration targets medium to large-scale utility solar projects catering to both wholesale electricity markets and private off-takers, consistent with regional trends toward large solar parks. Arctech’s presence in Latin America spans multiple countries including Mexico, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia, and the Argentina operations form a strategic base for long-term growth in the Southern Cone. The partnership underscores an expanding role of Chinese firms in Argentina’s clean energy sector, not merely as equipment suppliers but as key technology partners driving large-scale renewable infrastructure development. Concurrently, this deal complements China’s broader economic engagement with Argentina, which includes multi-billion-dollar investments and trade agreements covering energy infrastructure and technology. The Arctech-Tonka Solar alliance will contribute to advancing Argentina’s renewable energy targets and strengthening its position as a growing solar market in Latin America.
