TRANSENER publicly disclosed detailed expansion plans at the request of Generación Eléctrica Argentina Renovable I (GEAR I) and Vicuña Argentina, with significant upgrades at key 500 kV and 220 kV stations. These include refurbishing capacitor banks, adding shunt compensation, extending busbars, installing new interrupters, protection, control systems, and constructing a 167 km 500 kV transmission line connecting Rodeo and Chaparro stations in San Juan province to support a combined 260 MW mining load for the Josemaría and Filo del Sol projects. The project requires a Certificate of Convenience and Public Necessity and must meet technical demands issued by ENRE, CAMMESA, and distribution stakeholders.
Additional access approvals include Cabot Argentina’s 7.8 MW turbovapor generation connection to the Campana substation serviced by EDEN, intended for industrial self-supply and wholesale market sales, as well as Solargen Ullum’s 20.9 MW photovoltaic plant connection in San Juan province. These project approvals follow procedural windows for public comment or objections before final certification. Regulatory transparency includes administrative periods for alternative proposals and stakeholder consultations, with potential hearings triggered by common oppositions.
Collectively, these network expansions and access authorizations demonstrate Argentina’s ongoing investment in transmission infrastructure to accommodate growing energy loads across renewable generation, mining industries, and industrial users. The reinforced grid infrastructure will support the country’s energy diversification goals and enhance system reliability amid rising electrification demands.
