In the Biobío region, the Rinconada Wind Farm received approval with an estimated investment of $365 million. The project comprises generation facilities combining solar and wind energy with output transmitted via newly constructed lines serving Laja and Los Ángeles. It will have an installed capacity poised to boost regional renewable supply.
The largest component is the Los Coihues Wind Park in Ñuble, valued at $470 million and spanning the municipalities of El Carmen, Pemuco, and San Ignacio. This project plans to operate 47 wind turbines alongside solar power generation, transmitting the output to the SEN through expanded infrastructure.
The Committee addressed and dismissed public claims resolved through extensive environmental technical assessments by the Environmental Evaluation Service. This approval aligns with a presidential mandate to resolve pending environmental claims hindering project execution. The Minister of Environment, Francisca Toledo, highlighted the institutional shift toward monthly sessions to expedite environmental review processes.
Minister of Economy Daniel Mas noted the employment impact, estimating over 800 construction jobs created. The integrated approach of combining solar and wind generation with enhanced grid links signals Chile’s ongoing commitment to diversify renewable sources and decongest administrative bottlenecks obstructing green investments.
This collective approval unlocks critical capital from a pool of $16.3 billion in renewable projects facing administrative delays, reinforcing Chile’s strategic drive towards achieving clean energy targets and strengthening national power system resilience.
