The initiative aims to cover the municipality’s full electricity consumption, including public lighting, through solely renewable solar energy. The project was officially announced in September 2025 during Guaymallén’s Biennial Public Works Plan presentation, underscoring the partnership between the municipal government and Emesa. This will mark the first distributed solar park of this scale owned by a municipality in Argentina. Prefeasibility and technical-economic studies have been completed with support from the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI), confirming site viability including favorable soil tests for panel mounting structures.
Guaymallén’s Mayor Marcos Calvente emphasized that the park will enable the municipality’s energy self-consumption, reducing its carbon footprint and setting a precedent nationally. Emesa’s General Manager Mauricio Pinti highlighted their extensive experience in regional solar developments, citing projects such as the Quemado Solar Park and others in Palmira and Godoy Cruz. The construction will follow a turnkey model, with full handover to the municipality upon completion. This project aligns with Mendoza’s broader energy transition strategy toward sustainable infrastructure and local decarbonization goals in line with the Mendoza Energy Plan 2050.
