Diego Fettweis, HIF Global’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the move as a strategic extension of their experience in producing and exporting e-fuels, referencing their Haru Oni plant in Chile. This agreement builds on HIF’s 2025 contract with Mabanaft to deliver e-fuels to the European market, expanding its footprint in the region.
Christian Hanke, CEO of German eFuel One, emphasized the agreement’s role in achieving industrial-scale reliable production of synthetic fuels essential for transport sector decarbonization. Hamburg’s port is identified as a strategic logistics center for importing green molecules into Europe, reinforcing supply chain security and aiding Germany’s energy transition policies.
e-Methanol is produced from green hydrogen combined with recycled CO2, enabling use in existing engines and infrastructure without modifications. Its versatility allows deployment in maritime transport, industry, and feedstock for other synthetic fuels such as e-Gasoline and e-Sustainable Aviation Fuel (e-SAF). The agreement reflects growing demand for adaptable sustainable fuels to meet global decarbonization targets. The finalized contract and subsequent capacity expansion will position HIF Global as a significant supplier in the emerging global e-fuels market.
