For the year 2024, the Metro recorded a carbon footprint of approximately 6,243 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. In response, the company not only compensates these emissions but has also committed to ongoing reduction measures within its environmental management framework.
The certification acknowledges that through its clean energy usage in trains, trams, cable cars, and buses, the Metro de Medellín annually prevents over 650,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions that would otherwise arise from more polluting transport modes. This substantial environmental benefit functions as a positive externality for the Medellín metropolitan region, enhancing air quality and aligning with broader climate resilience goals.
