This find builds on previous discoveries at nearby Sirius-1 and Sirius-2 wells, located more than eight kilometers from Copoazú-1, confirming the geographical extension of the hydrocarbon province. The discovery consolidates the region’s role as a key gas-producing zone, which is critical for Colombia’s efforts to diversify energy sources and maintain supply reliability. Ecopetrol President Ricardo Roa highlighted the contribution of this expansion toward national energy security, emphasizing the strategic importance at a time when energy markets are influenced by global tensions and supply concerns.
Both Petrobras and Ecopetrol underscored their commitment to responsible development, engaging with local communities and complying rigorously with regulatory frameworks. Social investment plans are underway in the coastal departments involved. The ongoing characterization of additional hydrocarbon intervals and future commercial appraisal programs will refine the resource estimates, potentially accelerating gas commercialization and supporting Colombia’s transition toward cleaner energy matrices.
