José Carlos Vicente, Executive Director for International Exploration and Production at Repsol, underlined the project as a demonstration of the company’s ongoing capacity to efficiently deliver major investments and optimize high-quality upstream assets. Repsol Sinopec Brasil, a joint venture between Repsol and Sinopec, maintains a strong position in Brazil’s offshore pre-salt region, with additional projects like Raia (BM-C-33) in the Campos Basin underway. Raia, developed in partnership with Equinor and Petrobras, aims to start production in 2028 with significant natural gas supply potential.
The Lapa Suroeste startup complements previous 2025 milestones including gas production initiations at Cypre and Mento in Trinidad and Tobago, oil production at Leon-Castile in the US Gulf, and upcoming production from the Pikka project in Alaska. Together, these assets are projected to enhance Repsol’s production by 80,000 barrels daily by 2027. The emphasis on leveraging existing facilities and collaborating through international consortia reflects industry trends toward cost efficiency and risk-sharing in complex offshore developments. Brazil remains a strategic growth focus for Repsol’s upstream portfolio, underpinning its commitment to expanding hydrocarbon output in key offshore basins.
