This call complements previous planning efforts, including the 2026 Transmission Expansion Plan recommended by the National Electric Coordinator, who identified 45 projects valued at over US$700 million. These projects encompass both national and zonal scope, targeting key regions from Arica and Parinacota in the north to Los Lagos in the south. The initiatives focus on increasing transformation capacity, alleviating transmission bottlenecks, and strengthening security of supply, notably in the northern corridor and Metropolitan Region. Among notable undertakings are the installation of new transformers, construction of new lines, and augmentation of critical circuits to ensure system reliability and operational efficiency.
The 2026 process builds on lessons from the 2024 and 2025 expansion plans and aligns with Chile’s comprehensive energy strategy to facilitate decarbonization, enhance market competitiveness, and meet rising electricity demand. The CNE emphasizes the importance of private sector participation and robust technical evaluation to guarantee timely and cost-effective infrastructure development. This call is part of ongoing efforts to maintain Chile’s leadership in Latin America’s electricity sector modernization.
