The initiative, driven by the provincial government through the Ente Provincial de Energía (EPSE) and executed by Sergio Chiconi S.R.L., involved more than 80 specialized local workers across disciplines including civil and electrical engineering, metalworking, and installation. This has boosted local technical capacity and employment, reinforcing the regional renewable energy value chain.
Economically, the solar lighting system reduces operational costs by eliminating reliance on external electricity purchases and lowering maintenance expenditure due to the low operational complexity of solar-LED technology. Strategically, the project reflects a shift from mere renewable energy generation to the direct integration of clean energy technologies into critical urban infrastructure.
San Juan capitalizes on its favorable solar irradiance—among the highest in the world—to lead Argentina’s photovoltaic production, hosting over half of the nation’s solar parks. Governor Marcelo Orrego emphasized that the initiative not only produces clean energy but actively incorporates it into everyday public services, establishing San Juan among global leaders alongside regions such as South Korea, the Netherlands, and California. The project also features adaptive lighting controls under the “Luces que Inspiran” program, enabling color changes for social campaigns, demonstrating technological versatility coupled with social responsibility.
This landmark installation serves as a replicable model for future Argentine and Latin American infrastructure projects aiming at energy self-sufficiency, reduced emissions, and resilient public service delivery.
