Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 with full commissioning expected in 2028. Vestas will lead turbine supply, oversee construction, and manage operation and maintenance (O&M) activities under a 25-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service contract. The complex is forecasted to generate enough electricity to supply approximately two million residences, substantially supporting Brazil’s energy security and renewable share expansion.
The project will create over 8,500 direct and indirect jobs throughout construction and operation phases and aims to stimulate local supply chains and regional industrial activity. Casa dos Ventos’ Executive Director Lucas Araripe emphasized the project’s technical reliability and socio-economic benefits for Piauí. Eduardo Ricotta, Vestas Latin America President, underlined the strategic importance of ongoing collaboration to accelerate Brazil’s energy transition and expand clean energy access.
Despite positive momentum, Vestas recognizes continuing hurdles in Brazil’s wind market, including demand volatility, auction unpredictability, curtailment issues, and conflicting regulatory policies favoring fossil fuel assets. Vestas advocates for reforms integrating real-time pricing signals and storage solutions to enhance supply security and competitiveness. The company’s O&M footprint in Brazil has grown substantially, now managing over 12 GW across 60 wind farms, bolstered by recent establishment of a regional service hub and technical training initiatives.
This development illustrates renewed private sector confidence in Brazil’s renewable space, positioning wind power as a pillar of the country’s low-carbon future amid shifting energy consumption trends linked to industrial growth and data center expansion.
