The company’s first major breakthrough came during Bolivia’s mid-1990s capitalization process, when privatized state energy companies brought international standards requiring specialized local partners. Prosertec won a competitive national and international tender from Transredes to audit more than 120 natural gas measurement points across Bolivia between 1997 and early 1998. That contract enabled the establishment of a Santa Cruz branch office, which became the company’s legal domicile in 1999, reflecting the strategic decision to locate where Bolivia’s gas infrastructure was concentrated.
Over subsequent years, Prosertec consolidated three core service lines: project engineering including hydraulic calculations, design and capacity studies for liquid and gaseous hydrocarbon installations; technology integration encompassing complete systems such as fuel transfer measurement stations, gas regulation and measurement stations, and hydrocarbon reception and dispatch systems; and commercial representation of international manufacturers for specialized control instruments and measurement systems.
The firm attempted market entry in Peru during 2003-2004 in partnership with another Bolivian company as the Camisea gas field commenced operations in southern Peru. Strong domestic demand forced Prosertec to withdraw while the partner remained in Lima. A more deliberate second Peru entry occurred in 2013 through a board-level strategic decision, though details of that expansion were not provided in available sources.
The international expansion responds directly to Bolivia’s current gas reserve crisis, which has severely contracted domestic project opportunities. Prosertec’s experience accompanying the development of Bolivia’s entire existing hydrocarbon infrastructure, including through the 2006 nationalization, provides technical credentials for regional operations. The diversification into solar energy systems represents an additional hedge against hydrocarbon sector volatility.
