Colbún Soluciones by Efizity constructed and operates the facility, which entered service in 2024. The project complements an existing supply contract between Polpaico and Colbún dating to 2018, which serves the cement producer’s plants at Cerro Blanco, Coronel and Mejillones. The contracted supply covers 90 percent of the electricity from free contracts required by these installations. At Cerro Blanco specifically, the combination of the solar park’s output and the renewable supply contract enables Polpaico to declare 100 percent renewable electricity sourcing for the facility.
This renewable energy configuration supported Polpaico’s achievement of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Seal from the Huella Chile program in February 2026, a certification corresponding to the company’s 2024 inventory. The emissions reduction recognized by this certification is linked in part to the Cerro Blanco solar park’s operation.
The project represents a significant benchmark in Chile’s industrial self-generation segment, particularly for energy-intensive cement manufacturing. The partnership model between an industrial consumer and a major utility for behind-the-meter solar development establishes a template potentially replicable across other high-consumption industrial sites. Polpaico Soluciones, the parent company of Cemento Polpaico, positions the installation as demonstrating viable pathways for industrial decarbonization through distributed renewable generation combined with contractual renewable procurement. The certification obtained in early 2026 provides third-party validation of the emissions impact achieved through this dual-track renewable strategy.
