The wind farm generates electricity equivalent to the consumption of approximately 166,000 Chilean households. Manuel Tagle, general manager of Mainstream Renewable Power Chile, characterized the project as demonstrating execution capacity under challenging conditions, referencing ongoing permitting issues and transmission infrastructure deficits in the Chilean market. The facility’s nighttime generation profile provides crucial grid support during hours when photovoltaic output diminishes or ceases entirely.
Ckhúri represents Mainstream’s ninth operational asset in Chile under the Andes Renovables platform, which now encompasses six wind farms and three solar installations distributed from Antofagasta to Los Lagos regions. The 1,222 MW portfolio supplies power equivalent to 1.86 million household connections. Julie Berg, CEO of Mainstream Renewable Power, noted the addition strengthens the company’s diversified renewable asset base spanning Chile from north to south.
The wind farm forms part of the Huemul Energía platform, which together with Cóndor Energía contributes 1.22 GW of renewable generation capacity. Mainstream Renewable Power, founded in 2008, focuses exclusively on renewable energy development in emerging markets, with operational presence in Chile and South Africa. The company has completed 6.6 GW of wind and solar assets globally that reached financial close.
The Ckhúri project’s location in Chile’s northern mining region positions it to serve energy-intensive industrial demand in Antofagasta, where copper production drives significant electricity consumption. The wind resource at the Calama site provides generation patterns complementary to the region’s extensive solar deployment, addressing temporal mismatches between renewable supply and industrial load profiles.
