Research from the University of São Paulo has quantified the economic potential of hybrid renewable systems in isolated Amazonian communities. The study modeled a microgrid configuration for the municipality of Alvarães combining photovoltaic generation, biomass derived from cassava waste, and battery storage. The analysis concluded that this hybrid approach could reduce the levelized cost of electricity by approximately 83% compared to existing diesel-powered systems currently supplying remote areas. The findings suggest significant cost reduction opportunities for off-grid communities through integration of locally available biomass resources with solar generation and storage technologies.
