Andrés Gismondi, Vice President of Sales at Vestas for the Southern Cone and Northern Latin America, stated the project reflects growth potential the company observes in Peru’s market. Vestas views wind energy as central to diversifying Peru’s energy mix while delivering competitiveness, security, and long-term sustainability. Pierina Scavino, Country Manager for Vestas in Peru, emphasized the country’s consolidation as one of the region’s highest-potential energy markets amid ongoing matrix diversification needs.
The Emma wind farm adds to Statkraft’s renewable generation portfolio in northern Peru, where the company operates multiple projects. Vestas will provide cutting-edge technology and local expertise while creating value for the customer and local economy through the installation. The project’s location in Piura places it in a region with established wind resources and existing renewable energy infrastructure.
The contract comes as renewable energy developers in Peru pursue expanded participation in the national energy matrix. Statkraft maintains additional wind development plans in Peru beyond Emma, while Vestas positions itself to capture further market share in a country where renewable energy remains underdeveloped relative to regional peers. The 2027-2028 timeline aligns with broader industry construction schedules for utility-scale wind projects in Latin America.
The 72 MW capacity represents a modest but strategic addition to Peru’s wind generation base, supporting grid diversification objectives while establishing commercial precedents for future renewable procurement. Both companies frame the collaboration as confirming Peru’s attractiveness for renewable investment despite regulatory and infrastructure challenges affecting project development timelines across the Andean region.
