The Pampas wind component consists of 20 EnVentus V162-6.4MW turbines with 99-meter hub heights, contributing 128MW of wind capacity to a hybrid project totaling 697.5MW. Main wind components arrived on site in August 2026 with turbine commissioning scheduled for March 2027. Vestas will provide operation and maintenance services under a 10-year AOM 5000 full-scope contract following installation.
The installation required transporting approximately 11,493 tonnes of components across more than 118,820 kilometers throughout the logistics chain, involving over 180 personnel during construction and commissioning phases. The operation included more than 30 critical lifting operations for unloading and assembly, executed in a remote desert region with infrastructure limitations. Alexandre Espinosa, Vestas’ Head of Customer Project Execution for South Latin America, emphasized the challenge of coordinating personnel, equipment and materials under stringent safety and quality standards in challenging terrain.
The EnVentus platform is engineered to respond to diverse wind conditions, combining operational efficiency with improved infrastructure utilization. The V162 family can achieve 20-30% higher energy production compared to previous turbine generations depending on site configuration and characteristics. Rodrigo Terc, Vestas Chile Country Manager, noted the technology reflects how advanced solutions adapt to specific project requirements while maximizing energy production and competitiveness.
Vestas maintains over 1.64GW of installed capacity in Chile after more than 20 years of operations, recently completing AES Andes’ 78MW San Matías wind park in Biobío Region. The company actively evaluates and develops projects exceeding 2GW in capacity beyond existing installations. The figure excludes gigawatt-scale capacity under consideration for green ammonia and e-fuel projects in Magallanes Region. Chile operates 4.71GW of wind parks with 685MW under construction and 5.72GW in environmental review, supporting the gradual retirement or conversion of approximately 5.5GW of coal-fired generation capacity.
