The installation supports the field’s trajectory toward 100,000 barrels per day at the start of 2027, a production level YPF positions as among Argentina’s most significant unconventional oil developments. Horacio Marín, president and CEO, tied the facility directly to export ambitions, stating the crude processed will reach global markets via the Vaca Muerta Oil Sur project, which expands evacuation capacity through the Punta Colorada terminal in Río Negro. VMOS forms the export backbone for raising Vaca Muerta’s international profile in energy supply.
The plants were constructed under YPF 2.0 standards, an engineering framework the company applies to improve operational efficiency, reliability and scalability across unconventional assets. AESA led construction as main contractor, mobilizing more than 20 local and national firms. Peak activity employed approximately 1,300 workers including direct, indirect and YPF personnel.
The infrastructure integrates with LLL Oil, a development YPF submitted under the RIGI large-investment incentive regime with a capital plan exceeding USD 21,000 million for non-conventional oil expansion in southern Vaca Muerta. The crude treatment and compression capacity installed at La Angostura Sur provides the processing layer needed to handle rising well output and feed the transport network required for scaling production and sustaining export flows.
The facility represents a critical bottleneck removal in the Southern Hub’s growth path, translating well productivity into marketable volumes. YPF’s vice president of infrastructure, Gustavo Gallino, described the project as a result of engineering, planning and thousands of work hours, emphasizing the coordination across multiple teams to deliver infrastructure capable of supporting Vaca Muerta’s production ramp and export capacity expansion. The company frames the plant as concrete support for regional development and broader ambitions to position Argentina in the global energy trade.
