Buenos Aires Province Approves July Electricity Rate Increases with Differentiated Subsidies Across Four Major Distributors

The Buenos Aires provincial government approved updated electricity tariff schedules for distributors Edelap, EDEA, EDEN, and EDES, effective July 1, 2026, according to an Official Gazette publication. The measure incorporates modifications to the national Focused Energy Subsidies (SEF) regime and transitional increases in distribution components, directly affecting approximately 200 electric cooperatives operating in the province’s interior. The resolution validates recalculations performed by the Provincial Electricity Control Agency (Oceba) following adjustments ordered by the national Energy Secretariat.

For Edelap, residential customers not receiving subsidies will face a 5% increase in fixed charges compared to May levels and a 2% rise in variable charges starting in July. Subsidized households under the SEF program will see a more modest 2% increase in fixed charges. EDEN, serving northern and central Buenos Aires, will implement an 8% increase in unsubsidized fixed charges and a 2% rise in variable charges, while subsidized users will experience a 3.5% increase in fixed charges.

The updated tariffs incorporate new values for the Distribution Value Added (VAD), Local Generation Surcharge (SGL), Tariff Aggregate (AT), and Tariff Transition Charge (CTT), all components of the final electricity bill. The adjustments stem from a federal decision to raise the extraordinary additional bonus for SEF beneficiaries in June 2026 from 10.67% to 11.97% of the subsidized base consumption, requiring a recalculation of tariff tables that had been in effect since June 1.

The provincial resolution maintains wholesale energy, capacity, and transmission prices defined by the national government for the May-July 2026 period and preserves the subsidy framework established under Decree 943. The subsidy regime covers a single category of residential beneficiaries requiring state assistance for basic energy consumption. Qualified users receive bonuses on the first 300 kilowatt-hours consumed monthly during high-demand periods and on the first 150 kilowatt-hours during the remainder of the year. Consumption exceeding these thresholds is billed without subsidies.

The resolution also ratifies benefits for neighborhood clubs, public-benefit organizations, and social-tariff users while updating compensation rates for customers injecting renewable energy into the grid through distributed generation systems. The measure separates distribution charges from wholesale energy costs, allowing provincial authorities to adjust local components while federal pricing remains stable through July.
