Bahía San Blas, a critical fishing and sport fishing tourism hub, currently experiences frequent power interruptions caused by storms and high summer demand. The upgrade aims to deliver a more stable and reliable power supply essential for local development, tourism growth, and improving quality of life for residents. Interim Mayor Cristian Duarte emphasized that expanded capacity will remove existing barriers to new residential connections and investment projects, supporting economic diversification in the region.
Energy Subsecretary Gastón Ghioni noted that the project forms part of a broader provincial effort involving 30 to 40 similar initiatives in various localities, many supported by international financing. These include ongoing works in Quequén, Mar de Cobo, San Pedro Industrial, Villa Maza, and Villa Gesell among others. This coordinated approach aims to expand medium-voltage lines and transformer stations, supporting growing energy demands driven by population growth and economic activity.
The Carmen de Patagones project also anticipates auxiliary benefits such as job creation during construction and the facilitation of agro-industrial, commercial, and tourism-related ventures. By upgrading energy infrastructure in dispersed rural and semi-urban areas, the province aims to reduce regional disparities and support sustained local development across the southern Buenos Aires region.
