The immediate priority centers on filling the Pacific Pipeline to capacity. During discussions, Figueroa and Reynés addressed current system capacity and agreed that demand growth could justify expanding pumping capacity. While such an expansion would require extended timelines, it could eventually enable liquefaction plants and boost global LNG commercialization from the region. The Pacific Pipeline represents strategic infrastructure connecting Neuquén’s production with Chilean markets, and the province seeks to leverage this existing asset before advancing larger-scale projects.
Figueroa characterized Vaca Muerta as opening substantial opportunities for energy integration with Chile and the broader region. The governor emphasized strategic complementarity between Argentina’s resources and neighboring countries’ infrastructure and market access. He stated that Argentina possesses the resources while neighbors provide infrastructure and access to new markets, enabling joint generation of energy, investment and development. The approach positions Chile not only as a nearby market but as a potential gateway to international buyers through its energy infrastructure and Pacific coast location.
The governor stressed that realizing this potential requires building confidence, providing predictability and fulfilling commitments. He positioned Neuquén’s energy production as a potential development engine for the entire region. The meeting occurred during Figueroa’s European tour, which included business meetings in Spain and participation in Argentina Week in Paris. The governor’s agenda focused on consolidating Neuquén’s export potential, emphasizing LNG production with differential quality, gas industrialization at origin, and development of tourism, agribusiness and renewable energy.
The discussions mark an initial planning stage between the province and the company that controls critical cross-border infrastructure. No specific export volumes, investment figures or expansion timelines were announced. The technical work ahead will assess available capacity and conditions necessary for maximizing utilization of installed infrastructure before advancing to potential system expansions that could reshape regional gas trade patterns.
