The company formalized nuclear services provision and commercialization as a new strategic business unit during the semester, targeting technical assistance, engineering, maintenance, inspections, training, commissioning, component supply and technological solutions for nuclear plants and high-complexity projects. The initiative leverages capabilities developed across more than five decades operating Atucha I, Atucha II and Embalse, including completion and commissioning of Atucha II, Embalse’s life extension, ongoing Atucha I works, complex reactor repairs and used nuclear fuel management infrastructure.
In June, Nucleoeléctrica completed its first international sale of components developed for CANDU reactor technology. The transaction with Candu Energy Inc., part of AtkinsRéalis, involved supply of outlet shield plugs with flow restrictors designed to optimize operational conditions and safety of fuel channels. The components were developed jointly with CONUAR and the National Atomic Energy Commission, drawing on technical capabilities acquired operating Embalse Nuclear Power Station.
The company signed a memorandum of understanding to provide services to Romania’s CANDU-equipped nuclear plants, advancing its strategy to develop an export-oriented business unit for nuclear services, engineering and technological solutions. Nucleoeléctrica personnel have participated in projects linked to facilities in Canada, Brazil, China, South Korea and Spain. The company positions international commercialization of these capabilities as creating opportunities for Argentine suppliers, promoting specialized employment, diversifying revenue sources and contributing to foreign exchange generation. Combined nuclear and renewable energy generation accounts for approximately 25-26% of Argentina’s total electricity production, with nuclear providing continuous baseload power independent of weather conditions to complement variable renewable sources.
