Agama Rodríguez characterized knowledge and training as fundamental tools for transforming lives and constructing a more modern energy sector prepared for current challenges facing the country. He highlighted that the cooperation reflects both entities’ commitment to promoting ethics, transparency, and continuous professional development, noting the agreement is grounded in principles of integrity and compliance that both institutions promote. CIP Lima’s dean emphasized the importance of permanent training to address the country’s energy needs through specialized technical decisions, stating that an institution like CAREC is necessary to encourage and promote engineer training at required levels.
The Ministry separately participated in Universidad Nacional de Trujillo’s Petrovision UNT 2026 event, where the General Directorate of Environmental Affairs for Hydrocarbons presented on environmental management in the hydrocarbon subsector to university students. Director Efraín Soto outlined actions to prevent and reduce environmental impacts while promoting sustainable development across the value chain, emphasizing institutional coordination with SENACE, regional energy directorates, and specialized agencies including the National Water Authority.
Peru currently maintains five active hydrocarbon exploration contracts concentrating approximately 2,676 million barrels of prospective oil and nearly 800 billion cubic feet of gas, according to Vice Minister Agama Rodríguez at the GeoExplora 2026 launch. The country also holds 16 technical evaluation agreements under the Energy and Mines Ministry regulatory framework, located primarily in the northern coast and jungle regions, containing 11,700 million barrels of prospective oil and 7.8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The vice minister identified the Candamo project in the Madre de Dios basin as probably one of Peru’s largest undeveloped gas potentials, while highlighting offshore projects on the northern coast as among South America’s primary energy exploration opportunities.
