Construction of Argentina’s first liquefied natural gas export facility at Fuerte Argentino in Río Negro province has crossed 60% completion, positioning the Southern Energy consortium to begin shipments in 2027. The project has already secured a major offtake agreement with Germany’s SEFE for 2 million tonnes annually over eight years, representing more than 80% of the initial liquefaction capacity. Development of a dedicated 473-kilometer pipeline from Vaca Muerta remains the critical infrastructure gap, with construction scheduled between May 2026 and April 2028.
