The dealership expansion builds on the existing arrangement under which Toyota’s Zárate industrial plant receives 100 percent of its energy consumption from renewable sources. The facility produces Hilux, SW4 and Hiace models with an annual production capacity of approximately 180,000 vehicles. Since the original agreement commenced in 2018, the Zárate plant has accumulated consumption of 479,100 MWh of renewable energy supplied by YPF Luz, equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 133,000 Argentine households.
The progressive extension of renewable energy supply represents a staged approach that began with production operations, expanded to supply chain participants, and now reaches the commercial and service network. The initiative aligns with Toyota Argentina’s Global Environmental Objectives 2050, which target carbon dioxide emissions reduction across the product lifecycle. The company seeks to progressively expand renewable source utilization beyond manufacturing processes, with the dealership network representing the latest phase of decarbonization efforts.
Globally, Toyota is advancing extended-range electric vehicle development with reported plans to produce 200,000 units in China during 2027, doubling to 400,000 in 2028. The technology employs electric motors for propulsion while a gasoline engine functions solely as a generator, offering extended autonomy without direct charging infrastructure dependence. The Argentina renewable energy expansion proceeds independently but reflects broader corporate sustainability commitments as Toyota diversifies its electrification portfolio across hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric and extended-range configurations in different markets.
