Pre-salt production accounted for 4.959 million boe/d, or 82.6 percent of Brazil’s total output. The pre-salt layer produced 3.842 million barrels per day of oil and 177.58 million cubic meters per day of natural gas through 203 wells. Pre-salt volumes climbed 2.9 percent from July and surged 23 percent compared to the same month in 2025. Offshore fields supplied 98.1 percent of oil production and 88.3 percent of gas output, underscoring the dominance of maritime operations.
Petrobras, operating independently or in consortia, controlled 87.55 percent of total production. The company’s fields drew from 6,719 wells, including 614 offshore and 6,105 onshore installations. The Búzios field in the Santos Basin pre-salt led oil production with 1.172 million barrels per day. The FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, stationed at Búzios, delivered the highest single-installation oil output at 258,401 barrels per day. For natural gas, the Mero field topped the ranking with 48.93 million cubic meters per day, while the FPSO Sepetiba at Mero led gas production among installations with 12.97 million cubic meters daily.
Natural gas utilization reached 98.1 percent in August. The market received 69.41 million cubic meters per day, while flaring dropped to 4.16 million cubic meters per day, down 11 percent from July and 14.8 percent from August 2025. Operators reinject 126.87 million cubic meters per day and consumed 20.12 million cubic meters per day internally. The production expansion reinforces Brazil’s position as a major offshore oil and gas producer, with pre-salt fields continuing to drive national output growth. The Santos Basin maintains its role as the primary production hub, concentrating the largest fields and most productive installations in the country.
