The proposed legislative amendments aim to introduce new renewable energy quotas designed to incentivize 24/7 renewable portfolios and establish new mechanisms in procurement auctions for regulated clients. According to the agenda document, these changes will establish a new minimum threshold for electricity generation from renewable sources on one hand, while modifications to regulated client supply auctions will remove barriers preventing 24/7 renewable technologies and storage solutions from competing effectively on the other.
The National Energy Commission has maintained active engagement in energy sector forums throughout 2026, participating in seminars addressing energy challenges through 2030 and hosting technical discussions on transmission planning during the energy transition. The commission conducted public consultations on modifications to technical standards for coordination and operation of the National Electric System. Commission activities during the period included participation in the Electric Expert Panel’s public accountability session and organization of webinars addressing key aspects of the 2026/01 electricity auction for regulated clients. The commission’s 2026 public accountability report emphasized advances toward secure and sustainable energy transition objectives.
