Distribution company Edelap activated its Emergency Operational Plan and deployed technical resources to reconfigure the network and restore service. The response included installation of more than 15 generating sets and mobilization of technical personnel, with priority given to essential services, healthcare facilities, and electro-dependent users. By late afternoon, the distributor had restored electricity to approximately 43,000 affected customers, representing over 60 percent of those initially impacted.
Fire response involved coordination between firefighters, La Plata Municipality’s Civil Defense, and Edelap technicians, who extinguished the blaze around 6:00 AM. The outage affected residents across La Plata, Ensenada, Lisandro Olmos, Manuel B. Gonnet, Ringuelet, San Carlos, and Tolosa. As of the latest update, 22,000 users remained without electricity, representing five percent of the distributor’s total customer base.
Edelap maintained continuous contact with municipal and provincial governments to coordinate resources and assist affected residents. The company committed to ongoing updates regarding restoration progress and the operational status. The incident occurs against a broader backdrop of energy challenges in Argentina, with the national government separately convening governors from the Norte Grande region to address electricity consumption issues. The transformer fire demonstrates the fragility of distribution infrastructure and the resource requirements for rapid response when critical equipment fails, particularly in densely populated urban areas where single transformer stations serve tens of thousands of residential and commercial customers.
