Three concessions dominated national output during the period. Lot 95 in Loreto region led with 11,612 barrels per day, followed by Lot X in Piura at 9,084 barrels per day and Lot 8 in Loreto at 4,334 barrels per day. Together, these assets accounted for the bulk of Peru’s crude extraction. Meanwhile, several other blocks including Lot 67, XV, XX, and Z-6 reported zero production, highlighting operational gaps across the portfolio.
Natural gas output exhibited a similar pattern. Production edged up to 1,643 million cubic feet per day in September from 1,639 million cubic feet per day in August, but remained 10 percent below the prior-year level. The gas segment was anchored by three Cusco-based concessions: Lot 88 delivered 1,034 million cubic feet per day, Lot 56 contributed 325 million cubic feet per day, and Lot 57 added 213 million cubic feet per day. These three blocks concentrated the majority of the country’s gas supply.
The SPH characterized the results as evidence of persistent underperformance relative to historical benchmarks. The industry association argued that reversing the trend requires accelerated investment in exploration and field development, alongside broader deployment of natural gas infrastructure to residential, commercial, and industrial consumers. The organization positioned both objectives as central to strengthening national energy security and extracting value from Peru’s hydrocarbon endowment.
The production shortfall comes as Peru’s upstream sector grapples with regulatory uncertainty and limited drilling activity. No major exploration campaigns have commenced in recent quarters, and aging fields continue to deplete without equivalent replacement volumes. The gap between current output and prior-year levels suggests that incremental monthly gains are insufficient to offset the sector’s structural decline, placing pressure on policymakers to clarify investment frameworks and expedite permitting processes for new acreage.
