The audit was commissioned by Quintana Energy to Ambiental del Sud and covers comprehensive field surveys, inventory classification, and characterization of environmental findings at Cañadón León-Meseta Espinosa. The field is among ten areas included in the transfer agreement between YPF and provincial entity FOMICRUZ, through which Santa Cruz assumed administration of conventional hydrocarbon assets to implement a new operational and investment framework. The provincial government completed the transfer process in November 2025 by signing authorization decrees for seven continuing operators across ten fields in the Golfo San Jorge Basin, securing investment commitments exceeding $1.25 billion over six years from 2026 to 2031.
Quintana Energy forms part of the operational continuity scheme defined for mature areas in the basin, with commitments to maintain employment and execute new investments in Santa Cruz’s conventional fields. The company’s environmental compliance will be validated by the University of Buenos Aires engineering faculty, designated as the auditing entity through an agreement signed by Governor Claudio Vidal, FOMICRUZ president Oscar Vera, and YPF executives in November 2025. Historical environmental control data from September 2020 showed authorities conducting 256 inspection reports annually in the northern zone, covering fields including Cañadón León and Meseta Espinosa, with 7 environmental incidents and 16 regulatory infractions recorded during that monitoring period. The Cañadón León area also hosts a 122 MW wind farm developed by Luz del León S.A., which underwent environmental compliance auditing in September 2024.
