SPIC Brasil has formalized contracts totaling R$1.4 billion to add a seventh generating unit at the São Simão hydroelectric facility, marking one of Brazil’s largest recent hydro expansion investments. The project, qualified under the 2026 Capacity Reserve Auction (LRCAP), will add 310 MW of installed capacity with commercial operations targeted for 2030. The expansion strategy leverages existing infrastructure rather than new greenfield development, positioning the project as a benchmark for optimizing Brazil’s mature hydro fleet.
