Argentina’s Medanito crude from the Neuquén basin has established a permanent supply route to Uruguay’s state refiner ANCAP, replacing traditional African imports with shorter transit times and lower freight costs. Shipment volumes quadrupled between 2023 and 2025, reaching 240,000 tonnes annually, with June 2026 alone accounting for 200,000 tonnes equivalent to 1.5 million barrels. The consolidation of this corridor positions Vaca Muerta as a structural supplier to regional refineries while infrastructure upgrades on both sides of the border expand reception capacity.
