The technological core integrates chemical engineering, biotechnology, automation and digitalization to transform residues into functional flours and specialty ingredients for global animal nutrition, salmon farming and pet food industries. The plant employs Pulsed Electric Field technology unprecedented in Latin America. José Cuevas, founding partner and technical operations manager, stated the company’s central purpose is accelerating transition toward regenerative circular bioeconomy where waste becomes obsolete, converting environmental liabilities from methane emissions and leachates into certified nutritional assets that decarbonize animal nutrition.
The multipurpose shared-use facility addresses obligations under Chile’s REP Law requiring companies to declare agro-industrial waste in the SINADER system. Trongkai’s infrastructure executes multiple extraction and transformation lines simultaneously, adapting to seasonal variability of different agro-industrial residues throughout the year, eliminating idle capacity typical of traditional installations. The project operates in two five-year phases, with initial focus on basic waste treatment.
Trongkai represented Maule’s productive ecosystem at the Second International Meeting of the Regional Impact Trade Alliance in Spain’s Basque Country, presenting biorefinery advances in working sessions. The firm demonstrated capacity to convert regional agro-industrial byproducts into export-standard nutritional assets through technological innovation. The participation connected with ongoing discussions between Maule and Finland’s Kuopio region regarding strategic alliances in innovation and territorial development, reinforcing the company’s position in international bioeconomy networks.
